Are you ready for Facebook Business Profile page changes?

Are you ready for Facebook Business Profile page changes?

Facebook likes to keep us all on our toes when it comes to rolling out changes both to our personal profiles or business profiles and that is certainly true at the moment as they are in the process of changing the way in which company profiles will appear. If you have a business profile page on Facebook and have logged into it recently, you may have noticed that it gives you a preview of how your new style profile could appear and gives you the option to choose the new format now or wait until it is automatically changed for you on June 20th

Let’s have a look to show you what we mean. Below you can see that you have the option to update your page now for your fans and in doing so, it gives you a preview of how your content will appear. It’s quite handy to have the preview option because that way, you can make sure that you are happy with the way everything gets presented before it actually gets published.

And if time is scarce (as it tends to be for most Small Business Owners – particularly at the end of the financial year) and you won’t get time to log into your Facebook account before June 20th, we suggest that you try to take a look at it as soon as you can around the 20th June just to make sure that all of the content is presented properly in the new format.

So, what exactly are the changes in the new design?

Admin Panel
There is a nifty little feature available in the Insights tab (from the admin panel) which enables you to monitor Facebook pages that are of particular interest to you. One way to put this new tool to good use would be to watch your competitor’s pages and in doing so you can see when they have had new page likes, or their page like numbers have dropped. This is handy for you to be across as it gives you a feel for how your page is doing compared to your major competitors in the market.

Cover Photo
In your cover photo, your company name, category, and Follow/Share buttons will now appear within your main image.

News Feed
All News Feed posts will now feature on the right side of the page in a single column.

Custom Tabs
If you have any custom apps on your Facebook page these will now be represented by text links. So, to take an example from us here at Woocom – we have a custom app to subscribe to us which is now shown as follows:

Page Information
All of your company information and details can now be found on the left hand side of the page, in boxes like People, About, Apps, Photos, etc.

All sounds great – what do I need to do now?

  • Firstly decide on what your most important tabs are, and reorder them so that they are the first two items after the About tab. With the new layout you can only show two tabs at a time, so it will be even more important to promote your tabs with visually engaging posts.

  • Check that your cover photo still looks good with the text and buttons overlaid across it. The profile photo will shift up slightly so if you have customised your cover and profile photos to work together, you might need to revisit them both. Your cover photo will now appear on every tab so try to refresh it once in a while to keep it engaging.

  • Check you’re happy with your custom tab images. Even though the rectangles won’t appear under your cover photo anymore, they will still be visible on the left hand side of your page.

If you have a Facebook Business profile the steps you need to take to prepare for the new layout should be pretty straightforward. If you have yet to set up Social media for your business but are thinking about this or would like to have a chat to us about where to start – give us a call on 1300 266 966.
